Half Marathon • Quarter Marathon
These General Race Rules & Regulations set out the general framework governing the organisation and conduct of, and participation in, the races of the International Poseidon Athens Half Marathon.
Their purpose is to promote the safety of all participants, ensure fair and equal conditions of participation, uphold the principles of fair play, and contribute to the smooth and orderly conduct of the event.
These General Race Rules & Regulations are supplemented by the Official Race Notice, the Terms & Conditions of Participation and any Technical Instructions issued by the Organiser for each edition of the event.
A. GENERAL PROVISIONS
1. Scope of Application
These General Race Rules & Regulations apply to the Half Marathon and the Quarter Marathon, as well as to any other competitive event to which the Organiser expressly determines that they shall apply.
The specific requirements applicable to each race are set out in the relevant Official Race Notice and Technical Instructions.
Any special provisions governing a particular race shall apply in conjunction with these General Race Rules & Regulations.
2. Regulatory Framework
The races are conducted in accordance with these General Race Rules & Regulations, the Official Race Notice and the Technical Instructions issued by the Organiser, together with the applicable rules, regulations and requirements of the competent sporting and public authorities, where relevant.
3. Acceptance of and Compliance with the Rules & Regulations
By completing their registration and participating in a race, participants acknowledge and accept these General Race Rules & Regulations and the applicable Terms & Conditions of Participation.
All participants are required to comply with the race rules and with the instructions of the Organising Committee, race officials, medical personnel, competent authorities, security personnel, and authorised members and volunteers of the Organiser.
Failure to comply with these Rules & Regulations, or with instructions issued for reasons of safety or the proper conduct of the race, may, depending on the nature and seriousness of the violation, result in a warning, invalidation of the participant’s result or disqualification.
4. Amendments and Supplements
The Organiser reserves the right to amend or supplement these General Race Rules & Regulations where necessary as a result of changes to the applicable regulatory framework, decisions or requirements of the competent authorities, safety considerations or essential organisational requirements.
The current version of these General Race Rules & Regulations shall be made available on the Organiser’s official website.
Any specific or exceptional amendment relating to a particular edition of the event shall be communicated to participants in due time through the Organiser’s official communication channels.
B. ELIGIBILITY & CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
5. Eligibility to Participate
Participation is open to any person who meets the eligibility requirements of the race for which they register.
Age limits and any specific requirements or restrictions applicable to each race are set out in these General Race Rules & Regulations and/or in the relevant Official Race Notice.
Participation by a minor requires the consent of a parent or legal guardian, in accordance with the procedure established by the Organiser.
6. Health and Physical Fitness
Each participant is solely responsible for assessing whether their state of health, physical condition and level of preparation allow them to participate safely in the race they have selected.
The Organiser strongly recommends that participants undergo an appropriate medical examination before taking part, particularly where there are concerns regarding their health or where they have no recent experience of comparable physical exertion.
Acceptance of a registration and admission to a race shall not be construed as confirmation or certification by the Organiser of a participant’s medical or physical fitness.
7. Protection of Health During the Race
The health and safety of participants are a fundamental priority of the Organiser.
Authorised medical personnel may examine any participant at any stage of the event and, where they determine that continuing the race could endanger the participant’s health or safety, may require that participant to suspend or discontinue participation.
Participants must comply immediately with any instruction issued by authorised medical personnel on health or safety grounds.
8. Accuracy of Registration Information
Participants are responsible for ensuring that all information provided during the registration process is accurate, complete and up to date.
The provision of false, misleading or inaccurate information affecting eligibility, age category, classification or participant safety may result in cancellation of the registration, disqualification or invalidation of the participant’s result.
C. REGISTRATIONS – CHANGES – CANCELLATIONS
9. Registration and Confirmation of Participation
Participation in any race requires completion of the Organiser’s official registration procedure.
A registration is considered confirmed once all required information has been correctly submitted and the applicable payment procedure, or any other authorised method of activating the registration, has been successfully completed.
Registration periods, participation limits, available participation packages and the corresponding fees are determined separately for each edition of the event and are published in the Official Race Notice and/or through the official registration system.
The Organiser reserves the right to close registrations before the announced deadline if the maximum number of participants has been reached.
10. Individual and Group Registrations
Registrations may be submitted individually or through the Organiser’s official Group Registration System.
In the case of group registrations, the Group Leader acts as the principal point of contact between the group and the Organiser for matters relating to the group registration and is responsible for ensuring that group members are informed in due time of the applicable procedures, requirements and deadlines.
Specific provisions governing group registrations, participation coupons and any special participation packages are set out in the relevant official instructions published by the Organiser.
11. Correction or Amendment of Registration Details
Participants are responsible for reviewing and verifying the accuracy of their registration details.
Corrections or permitted amendments may be made only through the procedure prescribed by the Organiser and within the applicable deadlines.
Once the relevant deadline has expired, the Organiser may be unable to accommodate requests for amendments for organisational, technical or competition-related reasons.
12. Change of Race
A participant may transfer from one race to another only through the official procedure established by the Organiser and provided that:
- the request is submitted within the applicable deadline;
- places remain available in the requested race; and
- the participant meets all eligibility requirements for that race.
Any difference in the applicable participation fee or other charge shall be dealt with in accordance with the registration policy in force at the time of the request.
13. Personal and Non-Transferable Registration
Each registration and race bib is strictly personal and non-transferable.
The assignment, exchange, sale or any other transfer of a registration or race bib to another person is strictly prohibited.
No person may participate using a race bib issued in another participant’s name. Any such participation may result in cancellation of the registration, disqualification and invalidation of the race result.
This requirement is also essential for safety purposes, as the accurate identification of every participant is critical in the event of an emergency or where medical assistance is required.
14. Cancellation by the Participant
Where a registered participant is unable or no longer wishes to take part in the race, the Organiser’s applicable Cancellation and Changes Policy shall apply.
Failure to attend or participate in the race does not, in itself, entitle the participant to a refund of the registration fee or to transfer the registration to a future edition of the event.
15. Transfer of Registration to a Future Edition
Where this option is offered, the transfer of a registration to a future edition is a special facility provided by the Organiser and is available exclusively in accordance with the published terms, procedure and deadlines.
A transfer is not automatic and requires the participant to submit a valid request through the prescribed procedure within the applicable deadline.
Following expiry of that deadline, the Organiser shall be under no obligation to approve any request for transfer to a future edition.
16. Race Cancellation, Postponement or Modification
Where necessary for reasons of safety, following decisions or requirements of the competent authorities, due to exceptional circumstances or because of other conditions preventing the safe and orderly conduct of the event, the Organiser reserves the right to modify the start time, course, duration, format or any other operational aspect of a race.
Where circumstances so require, the Organiser may also postpone or cancel one or more races.
In such circumstances, participants shall be informed as soon as reasonably practicable, and the relevant provisions of the applicable Cancellation Policy and Terms & Conditions of Participation shall apply.
D. RACE BIB – ELECTRONIC TIMING
17. Race Bib
Each participant is issued a personal race bib (bib number), assigned exclusively to that participant and linked to the registration details provided.
The race bib must be worn as instructed by the Organiser and remain clearly visible throughout the race. It must not be covered, altered, folded or modified in any way that could prevent the participant from being identified or interfere with the proper operation of the timing system.
Participation without an official race bib issued by the Organiser, or with a race bib issued in another person’s name, is strictly prohibited.
18. Electronic Timing and Checkpoints
Official race timing is carried out using the electronic timing system designated by the Organiser.
Each participant is responsible for the correct use of their race bib and any integrated or separate electronic timing device, in accordance with the instructions provided by the Organiser.
For a participant’s performance and result to be considered valid, they must complete the entire official course and pass through all designated checkpoints and timing points.
The absence of an electronic timing record at one or more checkpoints does not automatically result in disqualification and may be subject to further verification. However, where it cannot be established that the participant completed the entire official course, their result may be invalidated.
19. Gun Time and Net Time
The timing system may record both the official elapsed time from the start signal (Gun Time) and each participant’s individual elapsed time from crossing the start line to crossing the finish line (Net Time).
The time used for official results, overall and age-group rankings, distinctions and awards shall be determined in accordance with the applicable competition rules and the specific provisions of the relevant Official Race Notice.
E. START – COURSE – FINISH
20. Starting Blocks and Waves
To ensure a safe, orderly and efficient start, participants may be assigned to successive starting blocks or waves.
Allocation to a starting block or wave may be based on declared or officially verified previous race times, estimated performance, the race entered, or other objective sporting and organisational criteria determined by the Organiser.
Participants must start from the block or wave to which they have been assigned and must follow the instructions of race officials and authorised Organiser personnel at all times.
The Organiser reserves the right to adjust the allocation, order or composition of starting blocks and waves where necessary for reasons of safety, capacity or the smooth flow of participants.
21. Arrival at the Start
Participants must arrive at the start area and enter their assigned starting block or wave in good time, in accordance with the official programme and the instructions issued by the Organiser.
Participants arriving late must follow the instructions of race officials and authorised Organiser personnel. Late arrival does not entitle a participant to enter a different starting block or wave, or to start at a time or in a manner that could compromise safety or disrupt the orderly conduct of the race.
22. Following the Official Course
Participants must complete the entire official course of the race for which they are registered.
Shortening the course, bypassing a checkpoint or timing point, or taking any other action that reduces the prescribed race distance or provides an unfair competitive advantage is strictly prohibited.
A participant who unintentionally leaves the official course and wishes to continue must return to the point at which they left it, without gaining any advantage.
Failure to complete the official course correctly may result in invalidation of the participant’s result or disqualification.
23. Course Markings and Instructions
The official course shall be appropriately marked and supported by the organisational and safety measures considered necessary by the Organiser.
Participants must follow all official course markings and comply with the instructions of race officials, authorised Organiser personnel, the Traffic Police, other competent authorities and authorised volunteers.
Any instruction issued for reasons of safety takes precedence over a participant’s wish to continue the race.
24. Finish
For a participant to be recognised as having validly completed the race, they must have completed the entire official course, passed through all required checkpoints and timing points, and crossed the finish line wearing their personal race bib and the required timing device.
After crossing the finish line, participants must continue through the finish area in the direction indicated by authorised personnel and must not stop in or obstruct the finish zone.
This is essential to maintain the safety and uninterrupted flow of participants finishing behind them.
F. TIME LIMITS – WITHDRAWAL FROM THE RACE
25. Time Limits
A maximum completion time may be established for each race, together with intermediate cut-off times at designated points along the course.
The applicable time limits and any intermediate cut-off points shall be published in the relevant Official Race Notice and/or Technical Instructions for each edition of the event.
Time limits are determined with due regard to participant safety, approved traffic-management arrangements, the period during which the race course remains officially operational, and the Organiser’s overall operational requirements.
26. Exceeding the Time Limit
Participants who exceed the applicable maximum completion time or fail to reach an intermediate checkpoint within the prescribed cut-off time may be required to discontinue their official participation in the race.
Once the approved traffic-management measures have ended or the course is no longer officially operational, the Organiser can no longer guarantee exclusive or controlled use of the roadway, traffic restrictions or the continued availability of all race services.
Where continuation is permitted by the competent authorities, any participant who chooses to proceed after the official operation of the course has ended does so outside the official race and must comply fully with the applicable road traffic regulations and any instructions issued by the competent authorities.
27. Withdrawal from the Race
A participant who decides to withdraw from the race should, wherever possible, notify the nearest race official, support station or authorised member of the Organiser’s team.
In the event of injury, severe discomfort, illness or any other health-related problem, the participant must stop and seek assistance immediately from medical personnel or authorised Organiser personnel.
Where necessary, participants must comply with any instruction to discontinue the race issued by authorised medical personnel or the competent race officials for reasons of health or safety.
G. SAFETY – HEALTH – MEDICAL SUPPORT
28. Safety as a Priority
Protecting the health and safety of participants, volunteers, spectators and everyone involved in the conduct of the races is a fundamental priority of the Organiser.
All participants are expected to act responsibly, take into account the prevailing race conditions and avoid any behaviour that could endanger themselves or others.
Any safety-related instructions issued by the competent authorities, authorised medical personnel or authorised Organiser personnel must be followed immediately.
29. Medical Support
The Organiser provides appropriate medical and emergency support in accordance with the operational plan established for each race and in cooperation with the competent authorities and emergency services.
The location and deployment of medical stations, first-aid teams, emergency transport resources and other support services are determined according to the specific requirements and characteristics of each edition of the event.
30. Medical Assessment and Withdrawal from the Race
Authorised medical personnel may examine any participant whenever they consider that a medical assessment is necessary.
Where medical personnel determine that continuing the race could endanger the health or safety of a participant, they may require that participant to discontinue the race.
The participant must comply immediately with any such decision.
31. Emergency and Hazardous Conditions
In the event of extreme weather conditions, natural disasters, emergencies, risks to public health or safety, or any other circumstances that may affect the safe conduct of the race, the Organiser may, in cooperation with the competent authorities where required, take any immediate measures considered necessary to protect participants and the public.
More specific provisions concerning the modification, suspension, postponement or cancellation of a race due to force majeure or exceptional circumstances are set out in the relevant section of these General Race Rules & Regulations.
H. RACE CONDUCT – FAIR PLAY
32. Principles of Race Conduct
All participants must compete with respect for fellow participants, volunteers, race officials, Organiser personnel, the competent authorities and spectators, and must at all times uphold the principles of fair play and sportsmanship.
Dangerous, unsporting or offensive behaviour, conduct that obstructs or interferes with other participants, or any behaviour that compromises the safe and orderly conduct of the race is prohibited.
33. Safe Movement and Obstruction of Other Participants
Participants must not deliberately obstruct, push or impede another participant, make dangerous changes of direction, or engage in any other action that could endanger another participant or unfairly interfere with their performance.
Participants who significantly reduce their pace or begin walking should, wherever course conditions permit, position themselves in a manner that allows other participants to pass safely and without unnecessary obstruction.
Particular care must be taken when entering or leaving refreshment stations, negotiating turns, passing through narrow sections of the course or changing direction.
34. Unfair or Unauthorised Assistance
Participants must not receive assistance that provides an unfair competitive advantage or is otherwise prohibited under the applicable competition rules.
Continuous or systematic accompaniment of a participant by an unregistered runner, cyclist, vehicle or other person is not permitted where such accompaniment constitutes unauthorised race assistance, obstructs other participants or creates a safety risk.
Official pacers, as well as persons or vehicles specifically authorised by the Organiser for an operational purpose, are exempt from this restriction when acting within the scope of their designated role.
35. Means of Transport and Unauthorised Accompaniment
Participants are not permitted to use bicycles, scooters, roller skates or any other unauthorised means of transport during the race.
This restriction does not apply to specific races or categories for which the use of a particular mobility aid or other device has been expressly authorised by the Organiser.
Unauthorised vehicles, bicycles or other means of accompaniment are not permitted to enter or move within the official race course.
36. Headphones and Personal Electronic Devices
The use of headphones or other personal electronic devices must not impair a participant’s ability to remain aware of their surroundings or to hear and respond to course markings, warnings and instructions issued by race officials or the competent authorities.
For safety reasons, participants are advised to avoid using headphones. Where headphones are used, they should be used in a manner that allows the participant to maintain adequate awareness of the surrounding environment at all times.
The Organiser may, where specific safety considerations so require, restrict or prohibit the use of headphones or other personal electronic devices throughout the entire course or on specific sections of it. Participants shall be informed accordingly.
36. Headphones and Personal Electronic Devices
The use of headphones or other personal electronic devices must not impair a participant’s awareness of their surroundings or their ability to hear and respond to course warnings, signals and instructions issued by race officials or the competent authorities.
For safety reasons, participants are advised to avoid using headphones. Where headphones are used, they must be used in a manner that allows the participant to remain adequately aware of their surroundings at all times.
Where specific safety considerations so require, the Organiser may restrict or prohibit the use of headphones or other personal electronic devices throughout the course or on designated sections of it. Participants shall be informed accordingly.
37. Respect for the Environment and Public Spaces
Participants must respect the natural and urban environment, facilities and public spaces through which the race course passes.
Water and food packaging, energy-product wrappers and all other waste must be disposed of only in the designated bins, disposal areas or collection zones provided at or near support stations.
Respect for the environment and helping to keep the race course clean are integral to responsible participation in the event.
38. Violations and Penalties
Any breach of the race rules, unsporting or dangerous conduct, failure to comply with safety instructions, shortening of the course, use of another person’s race bib, receipt of unauthorised assistance or any other material violation may result in disciplinary action.
Depending on the nature, seriousness and consequences of the violation, the following penalties may be imposed:
- a warning;
- a race penalty, where applicable;
- invalidation of the participant’s result; or
- disqualification from the race.
In cases of particularly serious, dangerous or repeated violations, the Organiser reserves the right, after considering the specific circumstances, to refuse the participant’s entry to a future edition of the event.
Any penalty shall be applied with due regard to the seriousness of the violation, participant safety, competitive fairness and the need to ensure the safe and orderly conduct of the race.
I. RESULTS – RANKINGS – AWARDS
39. Provisional and Official Results
Following completion of the races, results shall be published through the Organiser’s official channels and/or those of the appointed timing provider.
Initial results may be published as provisional and shall be subject to verification before being declared final.
The Organiser reserves the right to correct or amend a result where a technical error, incorrect recording, breach of these Rules & Regulations or any other circumstance affecting the validity of the result or ranking is identified.
40. Rankings
Official rankings shall include only participants who have validly completed their race in accordance with these General Race Rules & Regulations and the specific requirements applicable to the relevant race.
Overall and age-group categories, together with the applicable ranking criteria, shall be specified in the relevant Official Race Notice.
Each participant’s age category shall be determined in accordance with the applicable competition rules and the information provided during registration.
41. Protests and Requests for Result Review
A participant who believes that their result contains an error may submit a request for review in accordance with the procedure and within the deadline specified by the Organiser.
Protests concerning official rankings, alleged breaches of competition rules or other competition-related matters shall be considered in accordance with the applicable rules and the procedures established by the Organiser.
42. Awards and Distinctions
Award categories and any prizes, trophies, medals or other distinctions shall be specified in the relevant Official Race Notice.
Before presenting an award or distinction, the Organiser may require verification of the participant’s identity, age or any other information relevant to their eligibility.
The Organiser reserves the right to withdraw an award or distinction if a violation affecting the validity of the participant’s result or ranking is established, including where such a violation is identified after the award or distinction has been presented.
J. PARTICIPANT SERVICES & SUPPORT
43. Support and Refreshment Stations
The Organiser shall provide support and refreshment stations along the race course, as appropriate to the distance, conditions and specific requirements of each race.
The location of the stations and the refreshments or other supplies available shall be specified in the Technical Instructions or other official information issued for each edition of the event.
Participants must exercise particular care when approaching, entering and leaving support and refreshment stations and must avoid sudden changes of direction that could obstruct or endanger other participants.
44. Pacers
The Organiser may provide official pacers for selected target finish times.
Official pacers are provided as a support service to participants and do not constitute a guarantee that any particular finish time will be achieved.
Target times, availability and the means by which official pacers can be identified shall be announced before the race.
45. Bag Drop and Personal Belongings
Where a bag-drop or personal-belongings storage service is provided, participants must comply with the procedures and operating hours announced by the Organiser.
For reasons of safety and efficient operation, only the official race bag or another method of deposit expressly authorised by the Organiser may be accepted.
Participants must not leave money, jewellery, electronic devices, important documents or other valuables in bags or personal belongings deposited for storage.
46. Additional Participant Services
The Organiser may provide additional participant services, including physiotherapy support, recovery services, hygiene facilities or other amenities.
The availability, operating hours and specific conditions governing the use of such services shall be announced separately for each edition of the event.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, such services are provided as additional participant amenities and do not constitute permanent or guaranteed provisions under these General Race Rules & Regulations.
K. FORCE MAJEURE – EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES
47. Force Majeure and Exceptional Circumstances
Circumstances that may affect the safe or orderly conduct of the races include, without limitation, extreme weather conditions, natural disasters, fires, serious public health or safety incidents, decisions, restrictions or prohibitions imposed by the competent authorities, major disruptions to transport or infrastructure, and any other exceptional circumstances beyond the reasonable control of the Organiser.
In all such circumstances, the protection of human life, health and public safety shall take absolute priority over the conduct or continuation of the race.
48. Measures in Exceptional Circumstances
Where circumstances arise that affect, or may reasonably be expected to affect, the safe or orderly conduct of a race, the Organiser may, in cooperation with the competent authorities where required, take any measures considered necessary and proportionate in the circumstances.
Such measures may include changing the start time or location, modifying or shortening the course, altering the event programme or schedule, temporarily suspending the race, postponing it or cancelling one or more races.
Decisions shall be taken with primary regard to the safety of participants, volunteers, spectators and the public, as well as to any instructions, restrictions or decisions issued by the competent authorities.
Participants shall be informed as soon as reasonably practicable through the Organiser’s available official communication channels.
49. Consequences of Postponement, Cancellation or Material Modification
In the event of the postponement, cancellation or material modification of a race due to force majeure or other exceptional circumstances, the treatment of registrations and any related financial or other matters shall be governed by the applicable Terms & Conditions of Participation and the Organiser’s Cancellation Policy.
In determining the appropriate course of action, due consideration may be given to the nature and timing of the circumstances, decisions of the competent authorities, expenditure and commitments already incurred in connection with the event, and the practical feasibility of rescheduling or otherwise reorganising the affected race.
Any arrangements made in such circumstances shall be communicated to participants through the Organiser’s official communication channels.
L. PERSONAL DATA – PHOTOGRAPHIC & AUDIOVISUAL MATERIAL
50. Processing of Personal Data
The Organiser processes participants’ personal data in accordance with applicable data-protection legislation, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), where applicable, and the Organiser’s published Privacy Policy.
Personal data may be processed to the extent necessary for purposes including the management of registrations, participant identification, race administration and timing, the preparation and publication of results and rankings, participant safety, race-related communications, and compliance with the Organiser’s legal and regulatory obligations.
Detailed information concerning the categories of personal data processed, the purposes and legal bases of processing, recipients or categories of recipients, applicable retention periods and the rights of data subjects is provided in the Organiser’s Privacy Policy.
51. Publication of Results
As part of the organisation, conduct and official sporting record of the races, information necessary for the preparation and publication of race results and rankings may be made publicly available, in accordance with applicable data-protection legislation and the Organiser’s Privacy Policy.
The information published shall be limited to that reasonably necessary for the presentation, verification and historical record of race results and rankings.
52. Photographic and Audiovisual Material
The races are public sporting events and may be photographed, filmed, broadcast, livestreamed or otherwise recorded by the Organiser, authorised partners, official photographers and accredited media.
Photographic and audiovisual material recorded in connection with the event may be used, where legally permitted, for purposes including public information, editorial coverage, communications, promotion and the historical documentation of the International Poseidon Athens Half Marathon.
The collection, processing, publication and use of such material shall be carried out in accordance with the applicable legal framework and the Organiser’s Privacy Policy.
Any more specific provisions relating to photographic or audiovisual material are set out in the applicable Terms & Conditions of Participation and Privacy Policy.
M. FINAL PROVISIONS
53. Supplementary Instructions and Announcements
The Organiser may issue Technical Instructions, official announcements and supplementary information for the implementation of these General Race Rules & Regulations and for the safe, fair and orderly conduct of each edition of the event.
Participants are responsible for keeping themselves informed, in due time, through the Organiser’s official communication channels of instructions, announcements and any updates relating to their race.
54. Interpretation and Application of the Rules & Regulations
Any matter not expressly provided for in these General Race Rules & Regulations shall be addressed in accordance with the applicable competition rules, any relevant decisions or requirements of the competent authorities, the principles of fair play and sportsmanship, and the requirements for the safe and orderly conduct of the races.
These General Race Rules & Regulations shall be interpreted and applied with due regard to participant safety, equal treatment, competitive fairness and the principle of proportionality.
55. Relationship with the Official Race Notice and Technical Instructions
These General Race Rules & Regulations constitute the standing framework governing the organisation and conduct of, and participation in, the races of the International Poseidon Athens Half Marathon.
The Official Race Notice issued for each edition of the event specifies the races included in the programme and those details that may vary from one edition to another, including the event date, start times, age requirements, time limits, competition categories, awards, registration periods and other race-specific information.
Supplementary or specific regulations may be issued for races with particular characteristics or requirements.
The Technical Instructions provide the detailed practical and operational information applicable to each edition of the event and should be read in conjunction with these General Race Rules & Regulations and the relevant Official Race Notice.
56. Validity and Acceptance of the General Race Rules & Regulations
The current version of these General Race Rules & Regulations shall be published on the Organiser’s official website.
By completing their registration, each participant confirms that they have read, understood and accepted these General Race Rules & Regulations, the applicable Terms & Conditions of Participation and any specific provisions governing the race in which they are entered.
Participants are responsible for familiarising themselves with the current version of the applicable rules, instructions and official information before taking part in the event.
57. Responsibility and Acceptance of the Inherent Risks of Participation
Participation in a road race is a physical activity which, by its nature, involves inherent risks associated with physical exertion, individual health and fitness, weather conditions, the race environment and other circumstances that may arise during the event.
Each participant is responsible for assessing their own ability to participate safely, taking into account their state of health, physical condition, level of preparation and personal capabilities, and for complying with these General Race Rules & Regulations and all instructions issued by the Organiser, authorised medical personnel and the competent authorities.
The Organiser takes the prescribed and reasonable organisational, operational and safety measures for the proper and safe conduct of the races. The implementation of such measures does not remove each participant’s responsibility to exercise appropriate care, act responsibly and refrain from conduct that may endanger themselves or others.
Nothing in these General Race Rules & Regulations shall exclude or limit any responsibility or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law.
