Bobby Damore: Rebetiko on the Streets of the Course
With a strong international background and a deep passion for authentic Rebetiko music, Bobby Damore is a distinctive musical presence in the urban landscape of Athens.
Through his expressive playing of the trichordo bouzouki, he bridges cultures and musical traditions, bringing the spirit of classic Greek music into the streets of the modern city.
As part of the Poseidon Half Marathon, his music adds rhythm, emotion, and authenticity along the race course, accompanying runners and spectators with sounds that tell stories.
Biography
Bobby Damore is a Greek-American musician, living and performing Rebetiko music in Athens since 2011.
He has also spent three years performing in Turkey and has appeared live in New York City, New Orleans, and other international locations, gaining valuable global performance experience.
He grew up in Texas, with Greek roots on his mother’s side and Italian roots on his father’s side, with Greek musical tradition playing a decisive role in shaping his artistic identity.
He sings in Greek and partly in Turkish and plays the trichordo bouzouki, having learned primarily through careful listening to old recordings and by playing alongside professional bouzouki musicians at venues throughout Athens over the years.
He is mostly self-taught, guided by hands-on experience and the living tradition of Rebetiko music.
